As the Yellowknife Geoscience Forum celebrates its golden anniversary this year, the importance of geoscience, research and exploration is as critical today as it was 50 years ago.

This edition of UOP examines the geoscience behind our territory’s evolving focus on critical minerals. It includes maps of critical mineral showings and generalized geology of each region.

Meanwhile, the cover story celebrates another critical-mineral first for NWT mining. 

With the official opening of Vital Metal’s Rare Earth Extraction Facility in Saskatoon, the NWT is now the first link in an independent mine-to-motor supply chain that will see NWT rare earth elements processed for use in Germany’s auto manufacturing industry.
