WAMP: "Let's get the show on the road”

Western Arctic Moving Pictures is “taking the show on the road” with the On The Road tour that will screen a selection of films from the Yellowknife International Film Festival in five NWT communities.

Together with local partners films will be screened region to region in libraries, community halls, recreation centres, and a theatre, all at no cost.

Four films made the cut this year.

Family Routes

Directed by Keith Robertson (Canada)

In Family Routes, Leanne Robinson and Dwayne Wohlgemuth embark on a summer-long canoe trip across the Northwest Territories with their two sons, four-year-old Emile and one-year-old Aleksi. Together they face the challenges of living off the land and criticism from back home.

Carved in Stone: Sanannguaqtit

Directed by Angela Heck and Ivan Hughes (Canada)

Carved in Stone: Sanannguaqtit reveals the artists behind the work and the journey artists take to get their art sold, displayed and exhibited. Through generations, from the land and the city, working in studios, backyards and back lanes these artists have been celebrated internationally but mostly remain anonymous. Take a look at the evolution and future of Inuit artists through the lived experiences of five creators who are linked in their history through their art. Both in front and behind the camera, feel on the joys of carving, the challenges of creating and the transformational power of art.

The Arctics

Directed by Naomi Mark and Marty O'Brien (Canada)

The Arctics is a never-before-seen look at the history and impacts of the Arctic Winter Games, an international biennial multi-sport games that has been celebrating circumpolar sport and culture in the North since 1970. This short documentary follows the stories of characters from across the 9 contingents that make up the international competition as they prepare to partake in the 2020 Arctic Winter Games which mark 50 years since first opening.

No Visible Trauma

Directed by Robinder Uppal and Marc Serpa Francoeur (Canada)

In the midst of a global uprising against police brutality and systemic racism, NO VISIBLE TRAUMA examines a deeply troubled police department and reveals the devastating consequences of unchecked police brutality. Five years in the making, the film unravels the intertwined stories of three individuals who were the victims of extreme violence at the hands of police officers.
