The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment's mandate for economic development is supported by Prosper NWT, formerly named the Northwest Territories Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC).

Prosper NWT (formerly the BDIC) was established on April 1, 2005 and is governed by the Prosper NWT Act. It is a public agency of the Government of Northwest Territories. Prosper NWT provides a range of programs and services to help northern businesses succeed.

As defined in legislation, Prosper NWT’s mandate is to support the economic objectives of the Government of the Northwest Territories in a manner that benefits the people and the economy of the NWT by:

• Encouraging the creation and development of businesses 
• Providing financial assistance to businesses
• Directly investing in businesses
• Providing information and support to businesses and members of the public

Prosper NWT promotes business growth and diversification by providing flexible financing options and targeted programs and services that support businesses throughout their lifecycles. Prosper NWT aims to empower innovation, growth, and business opportunity in the Northwest Territories.
