Overview
The Artist Travel and Touring Fund helps NWT artists travel to promote, share or advance their artistic practice through performances, exhibitions, showcases, markets and other professional opportunities.
This fund is for artists who have developed their craft to a level where they are ready to engage broader audiences and pursue opportunities beyond their home community or the NWT.
Supported activities include but are not limited to:
- Visual art and fine craft exhibitions or showcases
- Sales markets
- Fashion showcases
- Author readings
- Film screenings
- Music performances, tours or showcases
- Film or music pitches
- Music studio recording (only when an NWT option is not available)
- Delivering workshops, presentations, speaking engagements or panels
- Networking at conferences related to your artistic discipline
Artistic development activities (residencies, taking workshops, receiving mentorship) are not funded through this program. Consider applying under the Small Arts Project Grant for funding for artistic development activities.
Available Funding
Individual artists can apply for up to $4,000 per year. Groups can apply for up to $8,000 per year.
Funding is assessed on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual budget is exhausted.
Minimum equity contributions of 20% are required from the applicant for this program.
Eligible expenses include standard accommodations (private accommodation at $50/night, or hotels/motels/Airbnb), lowest available airfare, driving costs (not exceeding the lowest airfare), project-related fees, excess baggage and shipping and ground transportation.
This funding does not cover per diems, incidentals, salaries, honoraria, unapproved expenses, GST/HST/PST, funding for Artist to Market Program cohorts, or costs incurred before your application is submitted.
Deadline
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis from April 1 to March 31 each year, until the annual budget is exhausted. Apply early to ensure enough time for review and processing of your application.
Eligibility
- Individual artists or groups who have lived in the NWT for at least 6 months prior to applying and are living in the NWT at the time of application
- Applicants can only apply for one project at a time -- a funded project must be completed and reported before you can apply again
- Applicants can apply for more than one project per year (individually or as part of a group) but cannot exceed the annual maximum
- Applicants may hold funding from this program at the same time as a Small or Medium Arts Project Grant, as long as all reporting is up to date
- Organizations (community governments, non-profit associations, etc.) are not eligible
