An exciting week-long celebration of northern-based films at the annual Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Film Festival is shining a spotlight on NWT visual artists, film-makers, screenwriters, and film producers.

This is the second year for the festival. It began Sunday (February 21, 2021) with two exclusive screenings of the NWT film “Elijah and the Rock Creature.”

First-Ever Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Film Festival Debuts

Many of the films on the bill this week celebrate the Dehcho Region and its wealth of culturally rich stories about the land, and its people. The marquee boasts a number of productions filmed in the Dehcho region and with connections to Fort Simpson residents.

All seven days of film screenings will be hosted at the Fort Simpson Recreation Centre and will follow COVID-19 protective measures including a maximum of 25 people, ticket pre-purchases on Eventbrite, and the required use of a facemask by all in attendance.

GNWT-ITI is delighted to provide support to the Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ Film Festival through the Support for Entrepreneurs and Economic Development Policy (SEED) and through the NWT Film Commission.

Investments in the NWT film sector serve to support the GNWT’s mandate to increase economic diversification. Film projects can also contribute to the GNWT’s mandate to increase employment in small communities.
