With some help from ITI, Yellowknife’s Andrea Bettger is heading to the 2018 Canadian Folk Music Awards. Her first album “Snappy Day” has been nominated for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year.
The awards ceremony will be taking place this weekend Nov 30 – Dec 1st in Calgary, Alberta.
Andrea is excited to attend. She was able to access funding for Market and Product Development through the Entrepreneur Support Stream of ITI’s SEED program to help cover her costs of attending the event.
“Events such as these host incredible artists as well as reputable people in the music industry, creating a situation where I can network with others and promote my music, potentially leading to opportunities for the future.”
“Thanks to Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), I am able to attend and perform at this national event which is the biggest milestone in my musical career to date!”
Andrea completed her music degree in classical violin but says her influences vary from northern Métis fiddling to jazz and gypsy styles. The fusion of these genres makes for an unforgettable performance that has something for everyone.
Other nominees from the NWT were Tiffany Ayalik and Greyson Gritt of Quantum Tangle for Shelter as we go. Their album was also nominated for the Pushing Boundaries award.
Andrea will be performing on the first night while Quantum Tangle will perform on the second night of the awards.
Industry, Tourism and Investment is proud to support Northern artists through a variety of programs. Click here for more information.
