Calling all Yellowknife businesses! The Be a Tourist in Your Own Town promotion is back and better than ever.
Yellowknife-based businesses are invited to participate and have until March 3 to register. You can sign up online or call the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce at 867-920-4944.
Leading up to National Tourism Week, and the unofficial start of the summer tourist season, the Be a Tourist in Your Own Town promotion campaign works to stimulate local interest, awareness and traffic for Yellowknife businesses catering or related to the tourism sector. A coupon book serves to highlight the many products and services available in the city by offering discounts and deals at participating businesses.
The coupon books are distributed at the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce Spring Trade Show on May 13 and are valid until June 9 at 4pm.
In 2016, over 3,500 people took advantage of special offers provided by 42 local businesses. This year the campaign is stacking up to be bigger and better than ever. New elements include more chances to win with weekly prizes drawn on each Friday of the campaign as well as three grand prizes to be drawn on June 9th at the end of the promotion.
The promotion is a collaborative effort between the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), the City of Yellowknife, Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce and NWT Tourism.
Developing a thriving economy in the NWT involves supporting and strengthening locally-owned businesses and their employees, while spending dollars within the territory will help to address the cost of living.
