June 2, 2020
The application deadline for the 2020-2021 Mineral Incentive Program is June 5, 2020.
Changes have been made to the program to strengthen support this year for proposed mineral exploration projects - and to ensure that their projects will be in line with the orders and conditions of the Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO).
Overall, priority will be given to projects that offer the greatest potential to advance economic recovery in the NWT. Non-NWT applicants are strongly advised to use services provided by NWT businesses and contractors to conduct most or all components of their project. (It will also greatly simplify COVID-related project planning.)
All projects will require CPHO approval. Here are some of the other changes that are being implemented:
- The maximum funding for corporate projects will increase to 60% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $240,000. In other words, a project with $400,000 of eligible expenses can potentially receive up to $240,000 in MIP funding this year.
- NWT expenses incurred to comply with mandatory self-isolation periods will be considered eligible expenses for MIP funding.
- Expenses related to expediting or program logistics in the NWT will be considered eligible expenses for MIP funding.
Access to remote NWT communities is being discouraged this summer. If your project requires access to one of our remote communities, your application will need to include additional planning documents.
