It’s not every day that a learning session looks so much like fun that onlookers ask to join in - but that’s exactly what happened during NorthernMost Host training held in the Dehcho Region in March.

The training, which encourages participants to take the role and view of tourists is punctuated with activities and engaging discussion topics; and takes a sometimes-entertaining approach to becoming a living, breathing tourism resource.

Workshops were organized by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s Dehcho Regional Office and held in Fort Liard (with participants from Nahanni Butte) and Fort Simpson.

“It was a great opportunity to build tourism hospitality skills across the Dehcho Region and it was promising to see how engaged the participants were,” said Jennifer Thistle, Manager of Tourism and Parks.  “As we continue to build our local tourism industry, it’s important that we enhance local capacity and training as well.”

The response was overwhelmingly positive and more workshops will be hosted in Dehcho communities over the coming months.
