Economic Opportunities in the Northwest Territories (NWT) were well-represented this week at the Opportunities North Conference in Edmonton September 12-14.
The annual conference, sponsored in part by the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), focuses on creating and expanding opportunities and partnerships for Northern communities. It brings together businesses, governments and community leaders to do business and network.
The event is a longstanding partnership between business chambers representing the NWT, Edmonton and the Yukon and rotates between Edmonton, Yellowknife and Whitehorse.
This year’s conference focused on five topics: agriculture, business growth, health, innovation and reconciliation.
The line-up of presenters included NWT Premier Bob McLeod and ITI Minister Wally Schumann who highlighted the NWT’s economic potential and opportunities for collaboration with other jurisdictions.
NWT food, drink and entertainment was also well represented at a themed gala dinner, showcasing economic opportunities in the NWT’s agriculture, fishing and business sectors.
Other representatives from the Government of the Northwest Territories in attendance included MLAs Corey Vanthuyne, Rocky Simpson, Kieron Testart, Herbert Nakimayak and Daniel McNeely.
Also on hand were Kathy Bolstad, Executive Director of NWT Tourism; and numerous representatives of NWT communities, corporations and businesses.
