The garden grow box project that took root in Norman Wells last year has flourished across the Sahtu. Through the project, elders were provided with garden boxes (3’x3’x1’), soil and seeds to grow their own produce and herbs.

The project was developed in partnership between the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), the Norman Wells Land Corporation and the Sahtu Health and Social Services Authority.

It was expanded this year, across the region thanks to ITI. Economic Development Officers in Tulita and Fort Good Hope set up garden grow boxes within their communities and Deline is next.

Over 60 garden boxes have popped up across the region, with even more expected next year.

In Norman Wells, the Sahtu Health and Social Services Authority and the Norman Wells Land Corporation have furthered the project to include young families (with children under 12).
