Film makers from Canada and beyond are getting the chance to meet the now-famous Rock Creature from the motion picture Elijah and the Rock Creature.  He will be making an appearance this week at the Whistler International Film Festival to promote the film.

The film itself is a true NWT product. Jen Walden wrote and directed the picture and nearly all of the actors, film crew and support staff, including producer Jeremy Emerson, are from the Northwest Territories.

The Whistler Film Festival is the next step in promoting and navigating the distribution of Elijah and the Rock Creature.  IndieCan, who helped make the film possible through IndieCan20k, is mentoring Walden through the process.  Walden was also selected for the festival’s mentorship program “Film – Market Preparation” delivered by WIFT – Vancouver.

Walden won’t be the only representative from the NWT at the festival; Keith Robertson will also be in attendance.  Robertson, whose short film Bait! was part of the 2017 Dead North Film Festival, was selected to participate in the Whistler Film Festival Doc Lab.  He also attended Cannes as part of a contingency of independent Canadian filmmakers with Telefilm Canada’s Not Short on Talent program.

The NWT Film Commission has also provided funding for the NWT Professional Media Association to attend and promote the north, alongside Film Commissioner Camilla MacEachern, to attendees of the festival.
