Applications are now being accepted for mentorships to help up-and-coming NWT filmmakers take their careers to the next level.

The mentorships are part of a new Film Apprenticeship Program and will place four resident film professionals on sets with mentors in their chosen field.

The pilot initiative was announced by Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Wally Schumann at this year’s inaugural NWT Film and Media Awards.  It is being funded by the NWT Film Commission and the Department of Education, Culture and Employment and delivered by the NWT Professional Media Association (NWTPMA).

Remarks: Minister Schumann at the NWT Film and Media Awards

Successful applicants will be chosen through a combination of resume, a written project proposal outlining placement objectives and an interview process. The NWTPMA Board of Directors will serve as a selection jury for this process.

Each selected applicant will have travel, accommodation and daily expenses related to their placement covered up to a maximum of $5,000.

Placements will vary in length depending on the needs of the apprentice, but all apprenticeships must be complete by March 31, 2019.

All applications will be reviewed on a first-come basis, so interested parties are encouraged to submit as soon as possible.

Active NWTPMA membership is required. Click here to register.

Through its implementation of the Take One – the NWT Film Strategy and Action Plan, the GNWT supports film development as part of efforts to grow and diversify the NWT’s economy.

A key objective of the Strategy is to develop the skills and competencies of NWT film producers and provide a comprehensive suite of above-the-line training opportunities.
