It was a meeting of tourism minds from the public and private sectors at the Museum to cap off Tourism Week in the capital.

Hosted by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, the networking event took place on a rather snowy evening at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre.  After a brief preface by Superintendent Kris Johnson, those in attendance introduced themselves and said a little about their business or place of work.

They were then free to mingle and exchange contact information with the goal of working together in the future to offer more comprehensive tourism packages to the territory’s growing tourist population – all while enjoying the gourmet offerings of local business Flavour Trader.

These efforts to bring tourism experts together are part of the GNWT’s work to tap the talent in the local industry and increase engagement with the programs and services offered to support the sector.

Those initiatives are guided by Tourism 2020 – the territory’s investment plan designed to increase the value of the tourism industry to $207 million by 2021.
