Fort Smith Talks Tourism

Aerial tours of Wood Buffalo National Park, Aboriginal cuisine and promoting the Dark Sky Preserve were just a few of the tourism boosting ideas that came out of a brainstorming workshop titled ‘Let’s Talk Tourism’ last week in Fort Smith.

The workshop was hosted by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s (ITI) South Slave Regional Office, the Town of Fort Smith, Wood Buffalo National Park and Northwestern Air Lease with a goal to create packages and promote tourism in the South Slave Region. The enthusiasm at the workshop was palpable and lots of ideas were recorded.

Two representatives from Edmonton Tourism, Maggie Davison and James Jackson, will join the discussion and share insights. The meeting will focus on how to package tours and how to build off the ideas generated at the ‘Let’s Talk Tourism’ event.

The GNWT’s is committed to growing economic diversity though investments in the NWT’s tourism sector.  The NWT Economic Opportunities Strategy highlights that quality packages and services, including tour packages, can make the NWT tourism product more competitive.
