The Yellowknife business community is celebrating a new arrival this week. Mr. Bingjun Wang arrived in Yellowknife with his daughter in August under the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Nominee Program’s business stream.

He trained with the previous owner for the last month and a half before taking over as the owner of Diamond Drycleaners on October 1.  Binjung’s wife and newborn son will be arriving in January 2017 and will assist with the business.

The Business Stream of the Nominee Program is administered by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment. It is designed to support the immigration of foreign nationals who express interest in immigrating to Canada to start a business or purchase an existing one which contribute to the economic development and success of the Northwest Territories.

Mr. Wang’s timely arrival is reflective of the GNWT’s renewed commitment to increase the number of immigrants working and investing in the NWT articulated in its mandate.  And there are others to follow.

The GNWT’s Departments of ITI and Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) continue to work on enhancing the program’s competitiveness with jurisdictions across Canada.  In the past year, they have worked to streamline the application process and add clarity to guidelines while launching a promotional campaign.  A new website is set to launch this fall.
