Campers at Blackstone Territorial Park now have another option for accommodations.

A new cabin facility can sleep four people and includes two cots, a wood stove and two picnic tables.

With the park typically operating until the end of September each year, the new infrastructure is especially welcome as the temperature lowers.

Blackstone Territorial Park was named one of the most family-friendly campgrounds in Canada by Today’s Parent Magazine.

“We’re excited to offer this new amenity at Blackstone Park,” says Jennifer Thistle, Manager of Tourism and Parks for the Dehcho Region. “It’s a popular spot, especially for canoeists along the South Nahanni and Liard Rivers and the new accommodations will be warm and welcoming after a lengthy canoe trip.”

Parks in the Dehcho Region experienced a 9.1% increase in visitors from 2016 to 2017. Enhancing parks infrastructure is one of the ways the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment is promoting park usage and increased visitation from both tourists and locals to all regions in the territory.
