The Department of Industry Tourism and Investment introduced a new publication at this year’s 2019 Yellowknife Geoscience Forum.

The new booklet highlights nine economically-significant commodities found in the NWT: Cobalt, Copper, Diamonds, Gold, Lead-Zinc, Lithium, Rare Earth Elements, Tungsten, and Vanadium.

Designed to support the GNWT’s “Unlocking Our Potential” brand, the publication will be made available at industry and investor events to help highlight the incredible richness and potential of the NWT’s mining and exploration sector.

Summary information is offered on each commodity including a listing of mineral prospects, maps depicting mineral showings, a summary of related mining activity and some common uses for each mineral.

The newest mineral to be added to the NWT’s commodity inventory is Vanadium; a metal used to strengthen steel in the automotive and air transportation parts industry.

The valuable mineral is found in numerous places within the NWT: near the NWT/Yukon border; Great Bear Lake area; the East Arm of Great Slave Lake; and in the uranium-bearing sandstones east of Great Slave Lake.
