Premiere of Invest Canada North Kicks off PDAC Convention

The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2020 Convention – the world’s premier mineral exploration and mining event – began yesterday in Toronto. 

Among its many events was the high profile premiere of Invest Canada North – a partnered approach between northern governments and industry to connect global investors with projects in Canada’s North.

The underlying focus on northern partnership and collaboration was front and centre in a well-attended opening-night networking event that highlighted many of the North’s active projects and companies and featured welcoming remarks from the Hon. Larry Bagnell, Parliamentary Secretary to the federal Minister of Economic Development and Canada’s three territorial Premiers.

Minister of Industry, Tourism and Investment Katrina Nokleby heads the GNWT’s presence at this year’s PDAC convention along with government representatives of the Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation and the Gwich’in Tribal Council.

In remarks celebrating the launch of Canada’s Mines and Metals Action Plan, Minister Nokleby welcomed the plan as a “roadmap to partnership.”

“I hope that this action plan will feed into other priorities essential to realizing our mineral prosperity,” the Minister said. “Investments in Canada’s North are investments for all Canadians.”

PDAC’s Monday schedule features a full-day forum focused on exploring, discovering and developing the mineral potential of Canada’s North. It will include a number of panel discussions and industry presentations profiling NWT projects and leaders as well as a feature address by Minister Nokleby.
