When young families in the Capital feel the bite of -40C they now have a new indoor option for fun and exercise and entertainment.

The My World Children’s Entertainment Playground celebrated its grand opening February 9 in Yellowknife.

Fannie Zhong is the owner of the family-run business.

“We visited Yellowknife three years ago and found that there were not many indoor children’s entertainment places in Yellowknife. Interactive projection games are relatively mature technologies in China. We believe kids need it to have fun on weekends so we decided to start this business.”

A former teacher, creating a fun space for children to play was a passion for Zhong.

Some of that interactive-technology fun includes a small ball pit with a large projection screen that encourages children to test their aim by winding up and throwing balls at projected targets.

Another area encourages children to colour pictures, have them scanned, and then watch as they magically appear amidst animation on a large projection.

In addition to the interactive technologies, children can also burn off energy on slides, padded jungle-gym style equipment and a play pit of what Zhong describes as “mess free sand”.

Originally from Fuzhou City, China, Zhong and her family immigrated to Yellowknife in March 2019 through the Immigration Nominee Program – Business Stream

The Business Stream is designed for individuals wanting to immigrate to the NWT and start, purchase, or invest in a business.

A number of businesses have already opened in the NWT under this program including: a bowling alley, dry-cleaner, a restaurant, a miniso and a bedding and linen store
