Prospector Training Is Coming To The Beaufort Delta

Those looking to stake a claim in the Beaufort should make sure to register before August 12th for the Introduction to Prospecting course. 

The two day course will be offered August 28th and 29th.  For $50 you can learn how to start prospecting your claim, get your prospector’s licence, lunch, and tools.  The first day of the course is a classroom setting and includes topics such as: how to prospect; claim staking; assessment regulations; basic geology and more.

Day two, armed with a bag of prospecting tools including a rock hammer, compass and hand lens, students will explore the local terrain, see a claim-staking demonstration and learn a hands-on approach to prospecting.

The NWT Geological Survey and Mining Recorders Office at the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment are partnering with the Mine Training Society, and the NWT and Nunavut Chamber of Mines to deliver the programming.

Helping increase public awareness of exploration and helping build capacity for Indigenous people in the sector are actions identified in the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Mineral Development Strategy.
