The GNWT’s REDI (Resource and Energy Development Information) initiative was in Fort Smith in late November.
The initiative encourages NWT residents to “Get REDI” with fact-based information about the benefits, risks and potential for resource and energy development in the NWT.
The ITI-led information trade show provides fact-based answers and material from a wide variety of subject matter experts. The tradeshow format enables residents to seek out topics or information according to their individual interests or concerns and have their questions addressed in a more-discreet one-on-one conversation.
The Fort Smith event also marked the official introduction of REDI online – a new resource through which residents will be able to seek out information any time. In the same way as they are at community events, questions received through this web portal will be directed to the appropriate subject matter experts to respond. As questions are asked and answered, they will remain on the site to build its value and relevance as an online information resource.
Students are an important target of the REDI initiative and teachers are always invited to bring their students to the REDI tradeshows and to use the community events as a stimulus to discuss resource and energy development in their classrooms. Resources are available to support teachers who want to use this experience to enhance classroom learning.
The primary value of the REDI initiative is the collaborative approach it takes to ensuing a full scope of information and expertise is on hand in the community. ITI would like to thank the many individuals who made themselves available to Fort Smith residents last week.
