People who visit the Northwest Territories say the warmth of our locals is what makes the biggest impressions and fuels the most stories.
During National Tourism Week (May 27 – June 2), the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment invited people to nominate people exhibiting that welcoming spirit to celebrate their contribution to tourism. Those great hosts got a chance to win a $250 cash prize.
This was the second #NWTHost campaign.
For the second year running, we heard a ton of stories about people greeting travellers at the airport, sharing language and culture, giving tips on local attractions – you name it.
From Ulukhaktok to Fort Liard, we heard stories about locals going the extra mile to make visitors feel welcome in their communities.
Here is a sample of some of the nominations.
I nominate James Anderson from Yellowknife as an excellent #nwthost. He is always telling people about the fabulous destinations across the NWT and a proud ambassador of the territory.— imonaboat (@blameitoncats) May 18, 2019
