Tourism in the NWT: A Year in Review 2019-20

The report is based on indicators from April 1, 2019 – March 31, 2020.  Tourism in the Northwest Territories (NWT) experienced a decrease in the number of visitors and visitor spending driven by the COVID-19 pandemic which began affecting travel and tourism early in 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020 and border closures and travel restrictions followed shortly thereafter.

The Research and Planning Unit within the Tourism and Parks Division compiles and reports key statistics covering major aspects of the tourism industry in the NWT. National and territorial tourism indicators, along with additional tourism and NWT-related data and resources are routinely posted and updated here.
