Today is Agriculture Day across Canada; a day to celebrate Canadian agriculture, consumers, and farmers, and to engage in conversations about improving Canadian agriculture!
With support from the GNWT’s Department of Industry Tourism and Investment and CanNor; and a healthy dose of home-grown entrepreneurship and innovation, the Territorial Agrifood Association promotes, supports and advocates for a sustainable, competitive, and resilient agrifood industry in the NWT.
The non-profit, non-governmental association represents members of the agri-food value chain across the territory; entrepreneurs that deal with all aspects of food production or its sale and delivery in the NWT. That includes farming, food harvesting, production, processing, manufacturing and distribution.

Did you know?
- NWT agrifood entrepreneurs produce over 92,000 pounds of produce annually?
- Approximately 80% of all agricultural products from the NWT are vegetables? or that
- Over 190 varieties of food and food products are produced in the North?
Through the ongoing implementation of its agriculture strategy The Business of Food: A Food Production Plan, the GNWT is working to advance mandate commitments to increase economic diversification by supporting growth in non-extractive sectors and to increase food security through locally produced, harvested, and affordable food.
A strong Northern Agriculture sector will increase local food production, reduce reliance of southern food imports, increase employment and self-sufficiency for growers and producers, increase access to healthy fruits and vegetables for Northern residents and contribute to the NWT’s economic growth and GDP.
