Yellowknife residents streamed into the Katimavik Rooms at the Explorer Hotel Thursday for an opportunity to increase their understanding of resources and energy development in the NWT.

It was the latest edition of the GNWT’s Resources and Energy Development Information (REDI) tradeshow in Yellowknife.

The event brought together experts from inside and outside government to provide fact-based information on the benefits, risks and potential for resource and energy development in the NWT.

Thirteen GNWT departments and partner organizations took part in the event, bringing a full spectrum of perspectives and areas of expertise to the table.

Of the more than 150 people taking part in the event, almost a third were students. Feedback was positive, with many commenting on the informative, inviting atmosphere, and the degree of expertise in the room. Some even commented on social media.

For the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s Client Services and Community Relations unit, the tradeshow was also an opportunity to gather ideas and questions for the REDI initiative’s next step – an interactive information portal online.
