Getting more Skin in the Game

Traditionally tanning a hide is a labour-intensive process that usually begins with the hunt, and ends in soft, smoky product ready to be made into everything from moccasins to vests and more. Not only does this process require time and hard work, there are also fewer tanners with the expertise and knowledge to carry out this traditional task, and hides are not always brought out of the bush as meat is prioritized if space is limited.

NWT Parks Flood Updates and Assistance

Hay River Territorial Park is not accessible due to floodwaters, and the town of Hay River has been evacuated. For assistance with no-fee campground stays for evacuees, in the South Slave call 867-875-7569 and in the North Slave, call 867-446-4306. The parks@gov.nt.ca email is also being monitored for requests. Please note that ID will be required to stay in any of the parks.
