Why in February? Because everybody in the agrifood industry is just too darn busy in the summer time!
The official way to celebrate Agriculture Day is to engage in conversations about food and agriculture and to get the word out on social media across Canada using #CdnAgDay.
You can post a photo or video celebrating agriculture, cook an all-NWT meal, or post a “forks up” selfie.
Check out Forks Up! For Canadian Agriculture for more information or resources.
Local food production and home grown products are becoming more prevalent across the NWT. Here are some of the activities make up today’s NWT’s agriculture sector:
- Commercial egg production
- Community gardens and greenhouses
- Backyard gardening
- Commercial potato production
- Farmers and community markets
- Harvesting of wild edibles
If you’d like to create an all-NWT meal, here are some recipes using NWT ingredients from regional chefs to get you inspired:
Smoked Rabbit Tacos - North Slave
Battered Trout with Dill Bechamel Sauce - Sahtu
Moose Short Ribs with Cranberry Bannock - Dehcho
Bison Tenderloin - South Slave
Caribou Celebration Dinner – Beaufort Delta
Whatever you do to celebrate Agriculture Day, make sure you tell everybody about it using #CdnAgDay and #NWTAg
