Canada looked North on Feb 8th as Scotia Bank’s “Hockey Day in Canada” celebrated its 20th iteration in Yellowknife and points further North. (Délı̨nę is the location of the first recorded ice hockey game in North America.)

For the Department of Industry, Tourism, and Investment (ITI), it was an opportunity to showcase the territory to a broader audience. Sunny skies, pond hockey and snow sculptures welcomed visitors and viewers to Frame Lake on the CBC’s national broadcast. And as sports casters and hockey heroes mingled with visitors and residents alike, NWT Tourism was on hand with their spectacular enhanced reality.

Meanwhile, across town, the NWT’s arts and culture were also on display. ITI’s NWT Arts Program worked with the City to establish a pop-up art market at the Yellowknife Multi-plex. Eighteen artists participated in the market. Seal skin mitts, photography, paintings, beading, and much more was offered up for sale.  It’s estimated that between 1,500 and 2,000 people took in the market confirming the demand for northern artists and their work.
