The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment was recognized this week for its ongoing support of the Mining Matters Program.

The industry-sponsored program, dedicated to delivering education on geoscience and mining to students in Grades 4-12, was presented in three regions this year by the Department’s Client Services and Community Relations Unit (CSCR).

On Tuesday, following his presentation to the Yellowknife Geoscience Forum, Minister Wally Schumann was presented a commemorative photo of Grade 4 students on the Ranney Hill Geological Interpretive Trail taken during the most recent delivery of the program at Yellowknife’s Range Lake North School.

The photo was presented to the Minister by the Executive Director of Mining Matters, Laura Clinton and Joe Campbell, Chair and CEO of TerraX - the industry partner and funder.

Mining Matters was also delivered to schools in the Sahtu and Dehcho Regions this year.  The program is supported by the Government of the Northwest Territories as part of its commitment under the Mineral Development Strategy to increase community engagement, and its overall dedication to supporting education and career advancement.
