Celebrate NWT Mining Week 2021, an initiative under MiningNorthWorks! with the support of the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines and the Government of the Northwest Territories.
From July 12th to 15th the Great Northern Arts Festival successfully returned to Inuvik after a year-long hiatus due to COVID-19. The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) was excited to help welcome back artists and public alike by sponsoring the returning event.
Program adjustments to the recently introduced Pandemic Relief Extension Program (PREP) (link to the program page) now mean that businesses who rely on tourism but do not have a Tourism Operators Licence (TOL) can apply to the Department of Industry Tourism and Investment to be exempted from this requirement.

Sparks Lake Lodge is located remotely in the South-East part of the NWT. With its own runway for airplanes, the lodge is a prime destination for fly-in fishing vacations. Dave Thompson and his business partner purchased the lodge in 2019.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment has released its reporting of oil and gas activity in the Northwest Territories for 2020. In what proved to be a slower year, Minister Caroline Wawzonek said much of the focus was towards the future.
The total aggregate oil production between January 1 and December 31, 2020, was 1,946,717 barrels. The total aggregate natural gas production was 51.22 million cubic feet.
