With COVID-19 limiting tourism activities in the NWT, now is the time to pivot to slightly altered markets or to a new kind of visitor.

How is your marketing reaching them? Do you have new ideas that will appeal to a fresh audience? Now is a great time to re-discover and re-imagine your tourism operations.

To help, ITI has re-designed three tourism training resources to guide you. Each workbook builds upon the other starting with tourism product development.

Have an idea? Make it a reality.

  • Tourism Product Development provides the tools and strategies necessary to successfully develop tourism products and experiences.  The workbook is designed for new and existing tourism operators to successfully develop new tourism products.

Do you already have a tourism product and looking for ideas on how to market it? Is your tourism product already established and well-known?

  • Marketing your Tourism Products offers an in-depth look into competitive marketing strategies for both new and existing tourism operators.  Participants will be introduced to key concepts of tourism marketing, and work through a variety of exercises to identify the unique selling features of their tourism product and how to match these features with target markets.

Finally, enhance your existing product by partnering with another local operator.

  • Tourism Product Packaging provides a detailed look at preparing tourism packages and services.  The workbook explains how to develop tours tailored to different types of visitors and will guide participants through a the advantages/disadvantages of packaging, discuss how to partner with other businesses, how to distribute the package information and how to establish pricing.

In addition to these courses, the Business, Market and Trade Ready (BMT) Program and tools can help you understand how applying standards will enable your business to access new marketing and distribution sales channels when you develop policies to meet expected service standards.

Whether you are selling direct to visitors or through travel trade channels, this training will help you meet visitor expectations and strengthen your position in market.

The targeted self-training tools are part of a larger inventory of training resources available from ITI and specific to NWT tourism operators.
