EOS Profile: Bobby Drygeese, B. Dene Adventures

Dene hand games, drumming, and ice-fishing are just a few of the cultural activities available at B. Dene Adventures, a tourism company based in Dettah and Yellowknife. Bobby Drygeese is the mind behind the company but he says it was his grandma that inspired him to share his culture. In her 103 years, she shared her traditions, history and stories with friends and families, and now Bobby shares those same insights with visitors to the NWT.

You’ll often find James and Maureen Pokiak outdoors, ulu-in-hand, preparing whitefish and whale dry meat on the wooden drying racks in Tuktoyaktuk. Perched on the coastline of the Arctic Ocean and surrounded by wilderness, it can feel like the edge of the world. It’s this striking ruggedness and the traditional way of life that attract visitors to the community and to the Pokiaks’ tourism company, Ookpik Tours and Adventures

Inuvik Youth Centre Tackles Film Making

If the level of excitement and engagement during recent training is any indication, the next wave of NWT filmmakers may come from Inuvik. From September 18 – 30, an Arctic Video Collaboration Workshop took place in Inuvik with support from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment. The training was hosted by Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP) and the Inuvialuit Communication Society (ICS).

With legendary fish, pure waters and a rich, vibrant culture, who wouldn’t want to visit Délįne?  The only community on the shores of the NWT’s Great Bear Lake, can even boast that it was the birthplace of ice hockey, back in the 1820s! Enter Danielle Takazo; new to the position of Community Tourism Coordinator for this culturally rich and awe-inspiring town, her role is to support and grow tourism in the region.
