With an 18-year history of development, improvement and growth, the China Mining Congress and Expo plays a critical role in today’s global mining industry. For the fourth successive year, the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment joined the Canada delegation at China Mining Sept 24-26 to promote the wealth and potential of the Northwest Territories Mining sector.

Live demonstrations included carving, beadwork, painting, traditional crafts, jewelry making, photography, literature and performance arts.  

NWT Arts Week kicks off today and there is no shortage of celebratory activities across the Northwest Territories (NWT).

We’re on the homestretch for the in-person portion of our public engagements for the new Mineral Resources Act. We headed down to Hay River and Fort Smith last week to hear what the South Slave had to say about mining and exploration as we develop the first ever made-in-the-NWT legislation to govern the minerals industry.

A temporary art gallery will be “popping” up in Yellowknife’s Centre Square Mall to celebrate NWT Arts Week September 25-30. Pop by the event and watch artwork created before your eyes, meet artists from across the NWT, listen to live performances, and tour the curated art collection.

Over 300 pounds of potatoes have been harvested from the Fort McPherson community garden this season. Earlier this week, students from the Chief Julius School had some fun with hands-on learning as they pulled and weighed the locally-grown vegetables.

The GNWT has introduced a new and improved online directory for its Business Incentive Program (BIP). The directory, which launched this week on the Department of Industry Tourism and Investment’s website, offers clients a more-streamlined and user-friendly way to access data and information that they can use to research or inform their proposal writing.

We’re more than halfway through our engagement roadshow for the new Mineral Resources Act—the Northwest Territories’ first ever homegrown mining legislation.

After covering the capital and heading down to Fort Simpson to hear from the Dehcho, we went north to Norman Wells and Inuvik to hear from folks in the Sahtu and Beaufort Delta.
