Deadline is Dec 1 for Indigenous Capacity Building Program

The deadline for the first applications under the GNWT’s new Indigenous Capacity Building Program will be December 1, 2022.

The pilot program was introduced by Minister Wawzonek on October 6, 2022. It will fund capacity building initiatives for Indigenous governments and Indigenous organizations ready to take on a greater role in the NWT resource sector.

Eligible Indigenous governments and organizations who would like to access funding prior to April 1st 2023 will need to apply by this deadline.  Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new application process and Applications guidelines.

Indigenous Capacity Building in the Resource Sector – Funding Application Guidelines

Applications will be evaluated and rated for acceptance. An application form, funding policy and scoring summary can be found here.

Funding can be accessed for strategic planning and capacity building activities like workshops and meetings, training, educational opportunities, and the participation and attendance of individuals at industry conferences and tradeshows.

Early, comprehensive and coordinated engagement between Indigenous governments, Indigenous organizations and industry is key to advancing mineral exploration and development in a responsible and timely manner.  Community leaders have long identified the need to participate from the beginning of mineral exploration and development projects.
