A busy but successful week at AME Roundup concluded Thursday for the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) delegation.  We don’t want you to miss a thing so here’s our roundup of Roundup:

New Data

Geological data is crucial for attracting investment. Just days before the conference, the NWT Geological Survey formally introduced, to potential investors and academics, an updated bedrock geology map and database for the mineral-rich Slave Geological Province.

New Funding

CanNor announced a half-million dollar investment in a new partnership with the NWT, Yukon, and Nunavut to promote mining in Canada’s North.  The Invest Canada North initiative will make its first major splash at PDAC (March 1-4) where delegates will see a robust presence from northern Canada including a media centre, a networking reception, and a forum on mineral investment opportunities in Canada’s North.

Fostering the Next Generation of Workers

Premier Cochrane, Minister Nokleby, and Minister Thompson made a point to focus on the territory’s most important resource: its people. They invited NWT students, studying in the Vancouver area, to join them for lunch; encouraging them to return home after university with their skill sets and education.

History-Making Agreements Signed

An agreement was inked between Det’on Cho – Nahanni and Cheetah Resources for a Rare Earth project that is forging a strong new path for the NWT.  For the first time, an Indigenous government-owned business in Canada signed a contract to lead a mine site. And for the first time, a rare earths project is poised to begin in Canada.

Indigenous Business Panel Focuses on Partnership

The importance of partnership was a central theme for the NWT’s presence at AME Roundup and that topic was emphasized by Minister Nokleby and other panelists from the NWT and Yukon during an Indigenous Business Panel Discussion, organized by the Det’on Cho Corporation.

NWT Night Dazzles

The NWT put its best foot forward during a well-attended NWT Reception to cap off AME Roundup. Guests crowded the room as traditional drummers set the tone for the evening, stunning delegates with a profound performance.

Speeches from a number of NWT leaders invited explorers and investors to look closely at the NWT and one lucky guest walked away with a special token of the NWT that he won’t soon forget – a diamond donated by the Ekati Diamond Mine.
