Unlocking our Potential

Top NWT Mineral Projects

Unbeatable Mineral Potential

The Northwest Territories hosts nearly 1.3 million square kilometres of largely untouched land — a wide-open frontier for mineral exploration.

Diamonds and gold are the territory’s signature, but there are dozens of proven, indicated, and inferred deposits encompassing base metals, precious metals, and the rare earths and specialized minerals powering the clean economy of the future.

  • The Northwest Territories is the third-largest global producer of diamonds.
  • The underexplored Slave Geological Province — already home to three operating diamond mines — is expected to hold similar potential to the legendary Abitibi Belt in northern Quebec and Ontario.
  • The territory has confirmed showings and resources for Lithium, Cobalt, and Nickel — anchor minerals for the emerging battery boom.
  • The Northwest Territories holds more than 12% of world Bismuth reserves.
