Yesterday the GNWT and the government of Canada announced $8.9 million for the construction of a new fish plant in Hay River. The state-of-the-art processing facility is a key element in the GNWT’s strategy to revitalize the Great Slave Lake fishery.

Commercial fishing on Great Slave Lake has been a mainstay of the South Slave economy since the 1950s when the fishery was developed to supply export markets. The Government of Canada and the GNWT have teamed up to commit 8.9 million funding for a new fish plant in Hay River.
Set to open in the summer of 2019, North-Wright Airways’ Ten Stone Mountain Lodge at Hay Lake has attracted adventure seekers who desire a luxurious twist. “We could not have done it without the support of the GNWT,” said Travis Wright of accessing the Tourism Product Development and Marketing Program to help get the idea off-the-ground.
