Tourism was top of mind in Wekweètì March 14-15 as residents gathered for a tourism open house and half-day planning session, hosted by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s (ITI) North Slave Office.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is seeking a proponent to provide technical expertise to assist with shaping the territory’s first-ever Mineral Resources Act.  At this stage we are issuing a Request for Qualifications to find the right proponent for the job. 

The very first Dehcho Agriculture Conference took place in Fort Simpson March 2-4, 2017.

The three-day workshop kicked off with a youth-focused day that welcomed 25 elementary and high school students and a total of 77 delegates from Fort Simpson, Jean Marie River, Fort Liard, Nahanni Butte, Sambaa Ke and Wrigley took part over the next two days.

A comprehensive overview of mineral activity in the Northwest Territories (NWT) in 2016 is now available. The Mineral Exploration Overview is produced by the Northwest Territories Geological Survey  (NTGS) and provides an update on the progress of mineral exploration and mining activities in the NWT.

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has taken action to support its foundational mineral exploration sector by extending a popular, effective program, and expanding another.

The interests of Northwest Territories mining are well-represented this week at the international industry’s biggest show. The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual conference and tradeshow is running March 5-8 in Toronto, and staff and officials from the Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) are on hand to represent and to pitch the NWT’s mining environment to potential investors.

Initial discussions on expanding the Tsiigehtchic commercial fishing industry drew about 40 participants to a workshop in the community on March 1, 2017.

The Northwest Territories is home to world-class tourism attractions; and last week representatives of the Dehcho gathered to learn how they could leverage destinations in their region to build their local tourism sectors and communities.

The training, Transforming Dehcho Communities Through Tourism, was held in Fort Simpson February 21-23.
