Technology Metals Take Lead at Arctic Energy and Emerging Technologies Conference

At the Arctic Energy and Emerging Technologies Conference in Inuvik, Tuesday, the talk turned to ‘technology metals’. “It’s a relatively new term,” ITI’s Assistant Deputy Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Pamela Strand acknowledged as she began the conversation. But it’s a growing global conversation in which the NWT will feature prominently.

The Northwest Territories (NWT) is home to some incredible hosts. During National Tourism Week (May 27 – June 1), locals nominated the best hosts in their communities for the many different ways they made visitors feel welcome – including greeting travellers at the airport, sharing language and culture, and giving tips on local attractions.

Mining Matters Returns to the Sahtu

Students in the Sahtu once again benefited this week from a program aimed at educating young Canadians about geoscience and mining. Valerie Gordon of the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s (ITI) Client Service and Community Relations (CSCR) division was on the road with the Mining Matters team to help increase awareness and public education on the NWT’s most important economic sector.

Yellowknife-Filmmaker Makes Cut For Film Faceoff

A budding NWT filmmaker who first found success at a Yellowknife festival is heading to the national stage. Yellowknife-based filmmaker Keith Robertson’s debut short film Bait! is representing the North on this year’s edition of CBC Short Film Face-Off — a competition where nine films selected from hundreds of submissions from across Canada battle it out for a chance to be licensed for broadcast by the CBC.
