Locals Hired During Filming of Volkswagen Commercial

Members of Yellowknife’s media community can add Volkswagen (VW) to their satisfied client list thanks to the vehicle mogul’s recent visit to the Northwest Territories (NWT) mid-December 2017. Local talent, including Rosanna Strong (Strong Interpretation), Kyle Thomas (With Media), Pablo Saravanja and Jay Bulckaert (Artless Collective)were brought on by Jeremy Hart, the expedition leader, to support the company’s new campaign, which will include online vignettes and human interest features.

Project Made Possible: End of the Ice Age Documentary

Transforming ice into infrastructure is perhaps one the best known example of Northern resiliency and resourcefulness. For more than 50 years, a 185 km man-made road of ice has connected two of the territories' arctic communities: Tuktoyaktuk and Inuvik.  In July 2016, with construction of the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH) approaching completion, Peter Clarkson knew he needed to capture the ice road’s history before it disappeared.

Inuvik Youth Centre Tackles Film Making

If the level of excitement and engagement during recent training is any indication, the next wave of NWT filmmakers may come from Inuvik. From September 18 – 30, an Arctic Video Collaboration Workshop took place in Inuvik with support from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment. The training was hosted by Western Arctic Moving Pictures (WAMP) and the Inuvialuit Communication Society (ICS).

One of Our Own: NWT Film Intern, Alinar Dapilos

The best and brightest walked the red carpet at last week's NWT Film Gala, including Mikey McBryan, Kirstin Carthew, Jen Walden, Leela Gilday, and PJ Marcellino, to name a few. As the lights dimmed and footage flashed across the big screen, gala guests got the first glimpse of the new NWT Film brand. For NWT Film Intern, Alinar Dapilos, it was a bittersweet moment. He was across the Atlantic Ocean when the logo he had spent months helping to finess, made its public debut.
