The NWT feature film — directed and produced respectively by local film stalwarts Kirsten Carthew and Amos Scott — reached yet another high-point in its festival drive over the weekend at Arkansas' Bentonville Film Festival.
It’s been dubbed the World’s Largest Film Festival! National Canadian Film Day - an annual coast-to-coast-to-coast film screening that will take place this year on April 19 and celebrate Canada’s 150th. Approximately 1,700 events are taking place including several in the Northwest Territories (NWT).

Artless Collective’s Dead North Film Festival‘s fifth edition from February 23-26 at Yellowknife’s Capitol Theatre will screen the creations of professional and aspiring filmmakers challenged to create their best original sci-fi, horror or fantasy films in nine weeks in the dead of winter.

The Sun At Midnight continues to shine the industry’s spotlight on the Northwest Territories. The film was one of a select few films from across Canada to receive a coveted spot during the PERSPECTIVE CANADA BERLIN, a Telefilm Canada Showcase at the European Film Market, where it was highlighted to an audience of 9,000+ industry professionals from around the world.
The European Film Market is one of the world’s top networking events for the film industry; and for the first time, this year, the NWT’s film industry will have a presence. Amos Scott of Yellowknife and Jerri Thrasher of Inuvik made the journey to Berlin to take part in the European Film Market, which is hosted in conjunction with Berlinale, the Berlin Film Festival February 9-19.
As the world fur market heads into auction season, Northwest Territories trappers are poised to make their mark thanks to the Genuine Mackenzie Valley Fur program.
