Over 300 pounds of potatoes have been harvested from the Fort McPherson community garden this season. Earlier this week, students from the Chief Julius School had some fun with hands-on learning as they pulled and weighed the locally-grown vegetables.

Economic Opportunities in the Northwest Territories (NWT) were well-represented this week at the Opportunities North Conference in Edmonton September 12-14. The annual conference, sponsored in part by the GNWT’s Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI), focuses on creating and expanding opportunities and partnerships for Northern communities.
The creativity and inventiveness of their “Discover Our Secrets” marketing campaign has landed NWT Tourism on the shortlist for the WestJet Social Media Initiative of the Year Award. It is one of 13 national awards distributed annually by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) and the Toronto Star to recognize success, leadership and innovation.
Minister Wally Schumann hosted his federal counterpart, Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay, in Hay River September 8, 2017. The afternoon tour included stops at two of the NWT’s most advanced commercial agriculture operations: the Northern Farm Institute (NFTI) and Polar Eggs.
